Dew Chilli Pub and Grill located at 2690 Dirksen Parkway in Springfield was in the path of what is being labeled a Derecho. We have never heard of something called a Derecho, but what we see, not only here, but throughout the city of Springfield, it's clear that it is destructive and dangerous. Today, this Dew location remains closed, and it is unclear when or if it will reopen as of right now. As we dig deeper into the damage we are finding more about the extent. Much of the equipment inside this location sustained damage, we assume through power surges as the power polls fell sending flames, bolts and surges all around the location. It's just too early to tell. What we are all thankful for is that the staff and customers inside the store during the storm were not injured. We are so thankful for that. It has been possible to remove the cars from the location that were damaged by the falling power polls and lines. Even still, while the business is suffering a major loss, the most important thing was that people here were all ok. Something else has happened. As we heard from our Mayor, this storm was more devastating than the Tornado years ago which heavily damaged the West side of the city and the Ice storm which also crippled the city years before that. Despite the enormity of this latest storm, we have seen a community pull together. Leadership in work as we all strive to get back up on our feet. We thank our city leaders, our emergency crews, our police and fire, and all involved working endless hours to get life back to normal in the Capital City of Illinois. We also send out our prayers to these individuals to remain safe as they continue with the recovery efforts, and we send prayers to our fellow citizens. That and the importance of the Legendary Dew Chilli in Illinois prompted Governor Daniel Walker to issue a special proclamation mandating "Two-L's-In Chilli-Day" in Illinois. Come on who doesn't love Chili? It warms the belly on a cold winter day and warms the heart in the middle of summer. It is one of the most comforting foods in existence. The Daily Meal, a National Food Publication describes Chili as "A well-made bowl of chili is a timeless American classic with nearly universal appeal". In fact, the publication has conducted a national study in an effort to determine "The Best Chili In America". Springfield, Illinois was once considered the Chili Capital of the Country with over a hundred Chili Establishments, including street vendors. in the City. Through the years, and one by one, that number dwindled, and the once Chili Capital lost its Chili Bragging rights. That was until a recent National search for best Chili conducted by the Daily Meal. The Dew Chilli Parlor located on Wabash Avenue has turned out it's lights and locked the door. But there is more to the story than meets the eye. Many people have been calling and several reporters have as well wanting to know what happened. The Dew has been at this Wabash Avenue location for 5 years and our lease was up. The Decision was to extend the lease or move on. Since there are two other locations in the Springfield Market. The Dew Pub and Grill 2690 S. The decision was made to look outside of the Springfield Market. Chatham, Illinois made contact with the owners several months ago and the Dew has been exploring the Chatham, Illinois Market. We still are. Also, the Dew has been looking into the Decatur, Illinois Market. In fact, The Dew has entered into negotiations on a location in Decatur. Other Markets which have expressed interest in having a Dew location happen to be out of state. Missouri and Indiana. But at this time the company is focusing on Illinois Markets. All the employees who worked at the Wabash location have been reassigned to either a Dew location or to Godfather's Pizza which the owners also have in Central Illinois.
