All of us at the Dew want to introduce you to 6 year old Emersyn Kisner. But to introduce her properly we have to start when she was at the ripe old age of 5. She is described by many as a soul of passion. One who loves life to the fullest and blossoms under adventure. New experiences and meeting new people, draws in her out-going joyous personality. Everyone who talks about her says she is unbelievably smart and inquisitive for her age and Quick to understand and learn to overcome new challenges. So, it was no surprise to her parents when she got introduced to the world of racing. At 5-years old she took to racing with eyes of wonderment and it was at that young age a new adventure began. Dew Chilli Parlor's Of America is proud to be part of that adventure by sponsoring Emersyn in Quarter Midget Car Racing. This sport is a form of auto racing in a quarter midget car, a down scaled version of other cars. The cars are specially built and prepared under rules and safety procedures that are designed specifically for children. Within the significant Quarter Midget motor sports events, children ages 5 to 16 are allowed to take part in various class divisions. The cars have bodies that are fiber glass and/or aluminum tin and are built around a tubular frame, fully suspended with springs or torsion bars and shocks. They race on oval tracks approximately 1/20 of a mile consisting of a concrete, asphalt or dirt surface. In July of this year Emersyn took part in her first Rookie race at the Abraham Lincoln Quarter Midget Association (ALQMA) Regional. She won 11 heat races, 3 main features and qualified fastest in her class 3 times. She has also taken second in 5 of the main features. Emersyn's last race for 2020 will be the Shorey Shootout in Springfield on Halloween Weekend. This will be a big one and all of us at the Dew are so proud of our little racer. Eric Steiner of Springfield, Illinois notice something that just seemed different. Eric wrote us to find out, and to clear up the question of the letter "L" in Chilli. Or is it chili? Eric Wrote. Quote "On this website and in your email address you spell Chilli as Chilli but on your 48oz can of Chilli it's spelled Chili. Why? " Eric is 100% correct. When we talk about Dew Chilli we spell the word Chilli with 2-L's instead of the traditional one L spelling. Our logo and all of our marketing material, and Yes our New Brick in a can Chilli has the Double L, except for the main face of the Can. Hmmm? Could this be a mistake? Enquiring Minds Want to Know. It was back in 1909 when the founder of Dew Chilli decided to spell Chilli with 2-L's and not one. People often made fun of Joe Bocklemann saying.....Joe what's wrong with you can't you spell? Joe in a soft tone would smile and laugh under his breath, replied sure can. The second L in my chilli stands for Love. Joe loved his customers and loved his creation. He always did things his way and spelled his Chilli with not one but two "L"'s. Dew Chilli. Joe's love caught the attention of Illinois Governor Walker who signed a proclamation proclaiming in Illinois the official spelling of Chilli is with 2 "L" So that is the history lesson. Now to answer the question as to why the Face of our Brick in a Can has Chili and not Chilli. The super-easy and super-short answer for this question is because the USDA says so. But let's us flush this out a bit more. The........ Establishes what they call “standards of identity” for food labeling. You can add fanciful descriptors (like “tavern-style”), but you can’t alter the actual standard of identity (in this case, chili). There are all sorts of very-strict Government rules about what you legally can and can’t call food on your packaging. Let’s use chili as an example: The USDA considers the word “chili” to imply that it has red meat in it. In order to call something “chili,” it has to have at least 40% red meat. This also applies to “chili without beans.” To be called “chili with beans,” it has to have beans (obviously, but no more than 25%) and at least 25% red meat. You need at least 6% red meat if you’re going to call something “chili hot dog sauce.” Anything else is just called “chili sauce.” Chili made with non-beef meats, like Vegetarian Chili, have their own separate guidelines. We have to get USDA approval for our labels, and as far as the USDA is concerned, there is no such thing as “chilli” with two Ls, which is why our can labels legally have to say “chili” with one L. The 2-L spelling is only accepted in Illinois thanks to Governor Walker, but since we are now shipping our Cans around the Country we must follow USDA guidelines on the can face. Notice the top of the Can and the Dew Logo. The 2-L spelling is allowed there, because it's our official logo. It's the name of our company. Snack or Apetizer this dish will certainly hit the spot. It's easy and oh, oh soooooo good! So here is how to make this combination of sweet and russet potatoes topped with Dew Chilli. I like to use the two different potatoes Sweet and Russet. Wash them well and pat dry. Cut the potatoes into wedges, leaving the Skin on, and place them in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, I like to use extra virgin Olive Oil, and then sprinkle with kosher salt and toss to coat. Place the wedges on a baking sheet and roast at 400-degree for 15-20 minutes, turning them once or twice until the potatoes are golden. Crack open the Dew family size Cans Chilli. If you are going to eat the dish right away, you'll want to slowly warm up some of the Chilli, If you are having the dish later you can heat later, But take a generous serving of Dew Chilli and cover your potatoes as you desire. Some like a hint of Chilli, others, like me, like a lot. Chilli not used place bowl that can be sealed, or zip lock and seal and freeze to use later. If you're not having the dish right away you can refrigerate until ready to serve. It's a great dish to cook ahead of time. The best part about this recipe is that it's ridiculously easy! So let's get everything you'll need to get Cooking. INGREDIENTS: 1 (8-OZ.) Can Refrigerated Crescent Dough. 8 Hot Dogs. 1 C. Shredded Cheddar 1 Family Size Dew Chilli Can 2-1/2 tbsp. butter, melted. 1 tsp. Finely Chopped Chives 1/2 tsp. garlic powder. DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat oven to 375 Degrees. Roll out crescent dough and pinch the perforations together to seal. Cut into 8 even squares, Sprinkle cheddar on each square and roll around hot dogs. 2. Spread Dew Chilli in an even layer on the bottom of 9"x13" baking dish. Place hot dogs in a row side by side on top of Chilli. Remember the second "L" in Dew Chilli stand for love. :) 3. In a small bowl combine melted butter and onion powder and chives. Brush over hot dogs and place in oven to bake for 30 minutes, covering with foil if the crescent dough begins to get too dark. 4. Dear Friends, Neighbors, Community and Valued Customers; We are reaching out to you as we all go through these difficult times fighting COVID-19. We want to share with you and assure you that you can dine with us, or enjoy a stay in our game rooms knowing that every precaution has been taken to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment. Dew Chilli Parlor's Of America has always taken measures to ensure the health and safety of anyone who enters one of our locations or orders from one of our store locations. This has been a practice of ours at all of our businesses and one that has earned us a strong reputation in the communities we serve. But COVID-19 is a different enemy to all of us so we have stepped up our efforts to ensure safety for all, and wanted to share with you just some of what we do each and every day. First: Everyday and Every Shift throughout the day our entire staff has their temperature checked and logged. Any person who has an elevated temperature is sent home and asked to see a Doctor before returning to work. Our staff has been great about this because they too want to ensure the safety of the customers they serve. While it is not required we have taken the extra step to ensure safety by having our staff wear Face Masks and Gloves. Again, our team members are committed to our community and are all in on doing what it takes to keep COVID-19 out of our store locations. All of our Store locations have been redesigned to ensure Social Distancing Practices. We can't seat as many, but that is okay. You will also notice that we no longer have things like ketchup, or mustard bottles out on the tables as well as salt and pepper shakers. Instead we provide each customer with their own sealed packages of these items as needed. Cleaning and Sanitizing never stops. Anytime a guest leaves, that area is completed cleaned and Sanitized. Also, before, during and after every shift all area's of the store location is cleaned and sanitized. Food Preparation safety has been and continues to be strictly enforced. Mask and Gloves are worn and often changed out. Staff in kitchen not only have their temperatures check before each shift, it is also checked randomly through their shifts. Strict measures are also in place in each of the Dew Video Slot Rooms. The Dew Goal is to Achieve a Safe Environment for Gaming Guests amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, We will achieve our goal by the following initiatives we have put in place. 1. Guest Protocols and Procedures. 2. Personal Protective Equipment. 3. Guest Distancing/Separation 4. Cleaning and Sanitizing Each of the Dew Video Gamming Rooms have been redesigned. We still have six machines with the latest games, but the machines have been spread apart and separated with customer see through dividers. Upon entering, guests wait at designated area for an attendant to check them in. Hand sanitizer station will be at the entrance of each game room for the guests to use. The State of Illinois has not implemented a mandatory face mask program, the Illinois Gaming Board has. The Board has ruled that anyone entering the game room, staff or player must have and wear a face mask. If this is violated an establishment will be fined and could lose it's license. State Agents have been making unannounced visits looking for violators. We ask that while we work hard to protect you , you help protect us by abiding by the Illinois Gaming Boards Rules on Face Masks. Guests are encouraged to bring their own mask, but guests will be provided a disposable facemask if they did not. Guests may be asked to temporarily lower or remove face covering while attendant verifies customer's age. All staff members will adhere to this IGB requirement. As the Dew does in the restaurant section of the facility, Temperatures of staff are also taken regularly and logged. No staff member is allowed to enter the building if they are not feeling well. Dew Chilli Parlor's Of America has taken even further steps to ensure the safety of our guests and staff. Each room has six of the latest in Video Game Machines, however, they have been separated not only by distance but high tech see through dividers have been installed at each location. This was a very costly expense but one we feel is well worth it if it ensures the safety of our guests. Also, each Dew location provides disinfectant wipes to all employees. When Customers leave, full cleaning is done of each machine and surrounding equipment, tables, chairs, physical divider. Attendant will place a sign on the machine indicating that the machine and surrounding area has been disinfected and is available for play. No customer will be allowed to play at a machine that does not have a 'PLAY IT SAFE" SIGN. Common areas such as bathrooms, entry ways and waiting areas are frequently cleaned. There are no guarantees that any location, be it a Dew or a Grocery store, or Auto Parts store or Doctors Office or your home, will be able to keep COVID-19 out. But we can offer you this Dew Pledge that we will do our best so you and so we can go on living a life not locked down and the lives we have cherished and plan to cherish for a long, long time to come.
